They say lightning never strikes twice. Or does it?
It was very late and after working on a portrait montage I decided to go to sleep. There was the odd lightning flash mainly in the clouds nothing exciting, then a very loud bang, I jumped out of bed to see a brilliant fork lighting over the housing estate, grabbed my camera with a wide angle lens and proceeded to my kitchen and set up for a long exposure. Fort Kinnaird shopping centre is hidden by the trees and I thought that there was a reasonable chance to capture the lightning strike over Edinburgh. There are tall metal lamp posts there so it made it possible to predict where the lighting would strike next. It was very tempting to rush out with a tripod and umbrella, but probably not a good idea.
For many years I have wanted to photograph the natural spectacle of a fork lighting storm, but here in Edinburgh this is a very rare occurrence.
